English 290: Introduction to Women's Literature
I designed original coursework and instructional methods for this introduction to women’s literature class focusing on coming-of-age stories, women’s rights, and sexuality. The course emphasizes prose, poetry, music, film and visual art by women of color. I teach canonical and non-canonical authors across a wide variety of genres with the aim of allowing my students to connect real world gender issues to women's literature across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Texts range from Jesmyn Ward's Salvage the Bones and Beyoncé's Lemonade to Maxine Hong Kingston's Woman Warrior and Ada Limón's poetry.
Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies 112: Accelerated Composition and Communication I & II
WRD 112 is an accelerated of composition and communication in which I teach integrated oral, written, and visual communication skills. In this course, I emphasize critical inquiry, research, and argument with an emphasis on issues of public interest. Students sharpen their ability to conduct research; compose and communicate in written, oral, and visual modalities; and practice working effectively in groups. I aim to create an inclusive learning environment by creating a reading list and crafting assignments that engage with and are mindful of race, gender, sexuality, disability, culture, and religion.
